Maintaining good tree health takes more than responding when something looks wrong. Trees are constantly affected by changes in weather, soil conditions, insects, disease and their surrounding environment. While some signs of stress are easy to spot, others can develop long before a tree begins to show obvious signs of decline.

That’s where consistent tree care can make a difference.

At Bayou Tree Service, our Tree Health Care Program focuses on monitoring tree health throughout the year, identifying potential concerns and recommending treatments based on what each tree actually needs.

And sometimes, the results speak for themselves.

See the Difference: Consistent Tree Care at Work

Every property—and every tree—is different. Our arborists and Tree Health Care team evaluate factors like canopy health, soil conditions, signs of insect or disease activity and environmental stress when determining the best course of action.

This large, spade-dug tree was planted in St. Francisville in an area with heavily compacted clay soil. After being in the ground for approximately three years, the tree had shown little to no new growth and was beginning to experience canopy dieback.

Our team was brought in to determine what was limiting their establishment and develop a long-term solution. We aerated and fractured the compacted soil to create additional pore space, helping improve the movement of air and water through the root zone. Compost was also incorporated to improve soil conditions and support healthier root development.

The trees were then enrolled in our Tree Health Care Program for ongoing monitoring and care.

Approximately 1.5 years separate the before and after photos. During that time, the trees showed increased growth, improved canopy density, and stronger overall root health.

The difference between these photos is a great example of why tree health care is about more than addressing one problem. Monitoring a tree over time allows our team to see how it responds and make adjustments when needed.

Healthy Trees Do More for Your Property

Good tree health benefits more than the tree itself. Healthy, established trees can be an important part of your property for decades, making proactive care an investment in your entire landscape.

Property Value

Healthy, mature trees can be an asset to a property. Consistent tree care helps protect the investment you’ve already made in your landscape while addressing potential concerns before they become more difficult or costly to manage.

Curb Appeal

Trees are often one of the first things people notice about a property. A full canopy, healthy foliage and well-maintained trees can make a noticeable difference in the overall appearance of your home or business.

The before-and-after photos above are a great example of how improving tree health can improve the appearance of the entire landscape.

Longevity

Mature trees take years—and sometimes generations—to grow.

Consistent monitoring can help identify signs of stress, insects, disease and soil concerns earlier, giving your trees the best opportunity to remain healthy for years to come. Protecting an established tree today can help preserve an important part of your property for the future.

When It Comes to Tree Health, Consistency Is Key

Tree care shouldn’t only begin when something looks wrong.

Bayou Tree Service’s Tree Health Care Program provides routine visits throughout the year, allowing our team to monitor your trees through different seasons and changing conditions.

Depending on your property and your trees’ individual needs, recommendations may include fertilization, soil conditioning, insect and disease management or other targeted treatments.

More importantly, consistent care allows us to build a history with your trees.

Instead of seeing a tree for the first time after a problem appears, our arborists and Tree Health Care team can monitor changes, evaluate how the tree is responding and make informed recommendations along the way.

The goal isn’t to treat every tree the same. It’s to understand what your trees need and give them the care necessary to support their long-term health.

Invest in Your Trees Before There’s a Problem

You don’t have to wait until a tree is visibly declining to start thinking about tree health.

Whether you have mature live oaks that have been part of your property for generations or younger trees you want to protect as they grow, consistent care can make a difference.

I manage the commercial construction bidding process and coordinate Bayou Tree Service’s marketing efforts, including social media and brand direction. On any given day, that means keeping projects organized, helping tell our story, and making sure the Bayou boys stay (mostly) on track. Bayou Tree Service has been part of my life since I was 16, when I started working here during summers and school breaks. Even after earning my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health, I found myself missing the work we do here and the people behind it. Coming back felt natural—this work matters, and being part of it always felt bigger than just a job. I earned my arborist license because I wanted to truly understand what I was writing about and be able to have informed conversations with the arborists in the field. I care deeply about our community and the role we play in preserving the urban canopy, and I take pride in helping share that responsibility through our work. Being part of Bayou Tree Service’s 45-year history means being part of a family—one that values hard work, trust, and doing right by the trees and the people we serve. I’m proud to be part of a company that feels like home and to support work that has lasting impact.
